How Walking Order Works for Field Inventory

Understand what Walking Order means in One Big Green, why it matters for service visits, and how it can be changed in both the Back Office and the mobile app.

What is Walking Order?

Walking Order is the sequence in which technicians move from one Display to the next while servicing a Service Site. It should reflect a practical route through the physical location, rather than the order in which Displays were added to the inventory or an alphabetical list.

For example, a technician might start near reception, continue through nearby rooms and corridors, and then move to another floor. Arranging Displays in that sequence helps the technician follow the route without unnecessary backtracking.

Walking Order is different from location

A Display's location and its Walking Order serve different purposes. Location information, such as its Floor, Zone, or Room, describes where the Display is. Walking Order describes when the technician should visit it in the route. Changing the Walking Order does not, by itself, change the Display's recorded location.

Where can Walking Order be changed?

You can change the Walking Order in either the Back Office or the mobile app. The updated sequence helps keep the field inventory aligned with the route technicians should follow.

In the Back Office: Click the icon for editing Walking Order. The Planters and Plants will be hidden, leaving the inventory displayed at the Display level only. Drag and drop the Displays into the sequence you want, then save the new Walking Order. The Displays will then be arranged in the order you defined.

In the mobile app: The same principle applies. Activate Walking Order editing mode, drag and drop the Displays into your preferred sequence, and save the changes. The Walking Order is shared between the mobile app and the Back Office, so a change made in the app is reflected in the Back Office, and a change made in the Back Office is reflected in the app.

When should you change Walking Order?

Review the route when the Service Site layout or inventory changes, when a new Display is added, or when technicians repeatedly need to backtrack. If a Display has physically moved, update its location information separately and then review the Walking Order.

If you import Displays or add them one by one, it is not necessary to arrange them in a particular order as you go. You can set the Walking Order later, once the Displays have been added.

Choosing a useful route

  • Start at the place where technicians normally begin the service visit.

  • Follow the real route through rooms, corridors, floors, and other accessible areas.

  • Keep nearby Displays together when that matches how the technician moves through the site.

  • Review the full sequence for unnecessary backtracking before saving changes.

  • For a major permanent change, consider whether the new route will work for everyone who services the location.

Practical tips

  • Walking Order is about the visit sequence, not the Display's physical location.

  • You can change Walking Order in both the Back Office and the mobile app.

  • Use the Back Office for larger route reorganizations and the mobile app for practical adjustments in the field.

  • After adding a new Display, place it at the logical point in the existing route.

  • Review the route whenever the site layout, access conditions, or inventory changes.
